Next Wednesday, we will adopt a decision of the Council of Ministers, under which one of the buildings located here in "Sofia Tech Park" will be provided for the expansion of the Technological School "Electronic Systems" (TU ES) to the Technical University (TU) in Sofia. It is one of our best schools, one of the schools on which the IT sector relies to the greatest extent, said the Minister of Education and Science, Krassimir Valchev, to journalists at a working meeting dedicated to the development of TU ES in the territory of "Sofia Tech Park".
The meeting was initiated by Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev and Minister Krassimir Valchev.
We need to expand admissions at TU ES and in mathematical high schools because, if we want to win from the global redistribution or to increase our gross domestic product as a result of artificial intelligence, we need more children who study information technology in depth. A large part of these students then go on to study computer science at the Technical University or at Sofia University, said Minister Krassimir Valchev to journalists.
We have undertaken a commitment to invest in all schools, in all types of schools. There are many programs and we fund small, medium, large, rural, and urban schools, as well as vocational high schools and primary schools. There are some schools that are strategically important to us and we have prioritized them. Such a school is TU ES, such are the Sofia Mathematical High School and the National Natural Sciences and Mathematics High School (NNSMHS), which we need to expand. In NNSMHS, this expansion is already taking place; now we are taking a significant step towards expanding TU ES, and the director of the Sofia Mathematical High School (SMHS) has prepared an expansion project. We will fund the design, and then the construction of a small extension to SMHS, explained the Minister of Education.
For decades, TU ES has been a generator of talent and the school has changed the Bulgarian technological sector, said Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev. He explained that a series of Council of Ministers decisions are needed, some of which have been taken, and others are yet to be taken in the coming weeks. "The idea is to open a new building of TU ES here," he clarified.
Representatives of the IT business, "Sofia Tech Park", the Public Council of TU ES, the Regional Inspectorate of Education in Sofia-City, and the Technical University in Sofia were present at the meeting.
The acting "director" of the technological school, Dr. Veselka Hristova, outlined the directions for the future development of TU ES and the educational program in order to adapt to new technologies and business requirements. For 37 years, TU ES has managed to prove that the educational model - school, university, business - is working in vocational training in Bulgaria, noted Hristova. She added that it needs to be discussed how TU ES could be in a larger educational environment. This year, for the first time, we are introducing a parallel class for artificial intelligence programming, announced Dr. Veselka Hristova.
TUES is a specialized technological secondary school under the Technical University (TU) in Sofia of national importance, which prepares specialists for the IT sector. Its graduates go through an in-depth and specialized five-year program, which allows them to position themselves in the technological sector as quickly as possible. They have received many awards over the years, explained the Ministry of Education and Science.
The Technological School "Electronic Systems" under the Technical University in Sofia was established in 1988 as part of the structure of TU-Sofia. The school is the result of implementing a very large and positive idea by major enterprises, scientific organizations, and associations in the field of information and communication technologies. The goal was to create a secondary educational institution that would prepare personnel with professional education in the field of computer science and information technology, it says in information published on the TUES website.
