
The Faculty of Industrial Technologies is the legal successor of the Machine-Technological Faculty, which is one of the founding faculties of the Technical University – Sofia. Therefore, it celebrates its 80th anniversary together with the university itself.
The celebration was opened by the Dean of FIT and Chairman of the General Assembly of TU – Sofia, Corresponding Member Prof. Dr. Georgi Todorov, who stated that a few years ago the faculty changed its name and today it builds upon and develops student education based on new technologies. FIT preserves the traditions established at its founding, develops traditional disciplines and specialties, and most importantly, enhances student education with new specialties that correspond to business requirements and modern technologies, he stated. The faculty implements research programs and realizes projects jointly with industry. This gives students the opportunity to acquire not only theoretical but also practical knowledge and skills.
The Rector of TU – Sofia, Prof. Dr. Georgi Venkov, congratulated the faculty on its jubilee and highlighted its leading role in the development of scientific research and the educational process in modern fields of technical sciences – robotics, automation, digitalization, artificial intelligence, and 3D technologies.
The Minister of Education and Science, Krassimir Valkov, attended the celebration. He stated that the Technical University – Sofia plays an important role in the socio-economic development of our country, because in the coming years it will be even more determined by technological transformations, from the mutual penetration of digital and real industries.
In his address to those present, including former rectors, the Minister noted that scientists at TU – Sofia can help Bulgaria to be better positioned on the map of modern industries. Minister Valkov expressed gratitude to the rectors of technical higher education institutions and scientific organizations that help the Ministry of Education and Science formulate the most important policies in the sector. He congratulated TU – Sofia for admitting more and more students, as well as the fact that they have higher results in the state maturity exams. As a positive trend, the Minister noted that the university is working more closely with business, and evidence of this is the establishment of the Center of Excellence "Mechatronics and Clean Technologies".
