Engineers will study global military innovations at the Technical University – Plovdiv branch during the new academic year
Not just engineers, but innovators for the Bulgarian defense industry – this is the goal of the new specialization starting at the beginning of the 2025/2026 academic year. Graduates of engineering specialties from across the country who have obtained a bachelor's degree will be able to study "Innovative Technologies in Defense" at the master's level.
Associate Professor Dr. Eng. Hristian Panayotov, Deputy Director of the Technical University – Plovdiv branch, justified the need for such training: "There were several main considerations for establishing the new specialization. First and foremost, of course, is the need to develop the Bulgarian defense industry. Modern technologies in this important industry for our country's security require specialized knowledge and skills for the implementation of intelligent technical means. The focus of the specialization "Innovative Technologies in Defense" can be on unmanned and robotic systems used for the benefit of the country's defense. For Bulgaria to have good personnel in defense, they will study the development of autonomous systems and conduct new scientific research for our defense industry. Yes, Bulgaria can buy the latest military developments in the world, but first – not everything is sold, and second – the more secure way is to make them ourselves."
Ivanka Vuleva – Director of "Human Resources" at VMZ – Sopot announced that the management of the enterprise has familiarized itself with interest with the training program for the new specialization and will send three students for training already during this academic year, who already have an engineering specialty at the bachelor's level and work at the enterprise. "We are ready to share our own experience with future masters by sending our leading specialists to participate in their exercises and consult them," said Ivanka Vuleva.
Applications for the new master's program have already started and will continue until the end of September. Documents from master's candidates are also accepted for 13 other specializations, which are in all engineering fields.
