Various aviation businesses are developing very successfully in Bulgaria, some of which are related to the technical operation and maintenance of aircraft, as well as production. This was stated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Hristian Panayotov, Deputy Director of the Technical University (TU) - Sofia, Plovdiv Branch, and lecturer in the Department of "Transport and Aviation Engineering and Technologies," during the presentation of the magazine LIK - "The Bulgarian Trace in Space" at the National Press Club of BTA in Plovdiv. The new issue of the magazine is dedicated to the 45th anniversary of the flight of the first Bulgarian cosmonaut Georgi Ivanov into Earth orbit and the contribution of Bulgarian science to space exploration.
Given the increased demand for personnel, interest in the specialty "Aviation Engineering and Technologies" is growing, and successful graduates are finding employment worldwide thanks to the internationally recognized diploma they receive. "Lufthansa Technik Sofia," for example, has an exceptionally large base with a need for many personnel and provides opportunities for TU students to complete their academic practice or internship, the associate professor pointed out. Thus, they can get hands-on experience with real aircraft such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 and participate in the actual technical maintenance process. Panayotov commented that the French aviation company for aircraft parts production "Latecoere" is developing very successfully in Plovdiv, and doors, the nose section, and parts of the computer cabinets in aircraft are produced in the city. A large number of TU engineers work there. We can safely say that if you have flown in recent years, the aircraft you flew on was most likely serviced or its parts were produced by university students, the associate professor said.
The university is proud of a large number of students who have found success in Europe, America, and around the world. Aviation engineer Alexander Marinosyan, who is a very successful designer and actively involved in the construction of light, two-seater aircraft, is also a graduate of TU.
The specialty "Aviation Engineering and Technologies" covers aircraft aerodynamics, engines, and flight dynamics. Upon completion of this specialty, the diploma is internationally recognized, and specialists can work anywhere in the world. In recent years, the university has successfully completed various projects, including a project for a Competence Center. "Many of our laboratories have been equipped with modern equipment. We have an aerodynamics laboratory that allows us to perform various types of measurements, to peek into the hidden side of aerodynamics, and to see what is invisible - air currents or how the lift force of an aircraft is created," Panayotov said. The university also has a flight simulator laboratory and laboratories with 3D metal printers.
The places at the TU branch in Plovdiv were filled by more than 90 percent of the state quota last year. The indicators for this year show that interest is growing, the associate professor said. About 15 specialists graduate annually in the "Aviation Technology and Engineering" specialty. The specialty has a boutique character, we are developing in a more specialized field, but there is interest, Panayotov pointed out. According to him, candidates often participate in aeromodelling clubs or their parents are part of the sector.
