Renovation of the student dormitory at the Plovdiv branch of the Technical University - Sofia has begun, the higher education institution announced on its website. The project is part of the program of the Ministry of Education and Science for "Renovation, repair and furnishing of student dormitories".
The 15-story building on "Saint Petersburg" Blvd. in Plovdiv will be renovated with nearly 10 million leva. The dormitory, formerly owned by the Academy for National and Social Management (ANSUM), was built in 1983 and since then only cosmetic repairs have been carried out in the building.
Plovdiv is the region with the greatest technical and industrial potential, so this project should have received funding, the needs of the business and industry in the region require it, said the chairman of the parliamentary commission on education, Krassimir Valkov.
The event was attended by MPs, the Mayor of Plovdiv Kostadin Dimitrov, the Deputy Governor Atanas Tashkov, the Deputy Mayor for "Education, Business Development and European Policies" Vladimir Temelkov, the mayors of the "Central" and "Trakia" districts Georgi Stamenov and Georgi Gatev, the director of the branch of the higher education institution Assoc. Prof. Nikola Shakev, students.
Student dormitories across the country will be renovated with up to 200 million leva, the government decided last month. The additional 100 million leva over the initially allocated funding will be used for the modernization of dormitories managed by state higher education institutions. In addition to increasing the funds for the program, the Council of Ministers extended its duration by one year, until the end of 2027.
