Artificial intelligence should be studied in schools. This was proposed by Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov. He explained that in the future, young people will work with artificial intelligence, which in turn can solve the problem of low productivity. We already have the first schools where AI technology will be studied.
"Artificial intelligence is already among us and it is useful. Bulgaria has a very good ecosystem in the IT sector, which is transforming. We have specialists for years. Prepared people are very important. The idea of Acad. Denkov is timely. Bulgaria has potential and is developing. All industries will be under the scope of AI in one form or another", commented the Chairman of the General Assembly of the Technical University of Sofia Prof. Georgi Todorov in the studio of "Bulgaria Morning".
According to the director of the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Gymnasium in Veliko Tarnovo Angel Gusev, for quality education, there must be good specialists. "Every beginning is difficult and this training requires additional qualification of teachers. Thanks to our good cooperation with the Technical University, we have already taken the first steps", Gusev said on the air of Bulgaria ON AIR.
To the question of how well we are keeping up with the new times, Prof. Todorov answered that the processes did not start now and added that Bulgaria has an artificial intelligence cluster, in which almost 100 companies are members. "Like any technology, it has both pros and cons. The EU made the first regulation in the world related to AI processes. It allows us to extract information and manage events that we did not think existed. The prospects are strictly positive. Scientists are careful not to allow deviations", Prof. Todorov stated.
Gusev noted that the link between secondary and higher education is important. "They should feel that higher education will be the next step in their development. Improvements need to be made so that the transition from secondary to higher education is smooth", he pointed out.
Prof. Todorov noted that foreign students are also enrolled in the English-language artificial intelligence program at the Technical University. "The goal is to be at a European level and to be recognizable. In the modern world, the battle is between those who know and those who can. Every young person who wants perspective must improve their competence. For our program, we require proficiency in English. Not everyone needs to become an AI specialist, but Bulgaria must be a leader in this field and we believe this is possible", Prof. Todorov added.
