

The newly elected director of the Plovdiv branch of the Technical University – Sofia, Assoc. Prof. Nikola Shakhev, presented his three deputies with whom he will manage the higher education institution over the next four years. Prof. Vaelo Nikolov, who served as the director of the Branch in the previous two terms, will be the Deputy Director for "Academic Activities and Academic Staff". Prof. Nikolov is a proven expert in the field of piston and gas turbine internal combustion engines; dynamics and vibrations of machines, cars, and trains; pneumatic and hydraulic drive systems. He is the head and participant in over 20 research and implementation projects and is the author and co-author of over 100 scientific papers published in the country and abroad. Assoc. Prof. Nikolaiakanakov takes over as Deputy Director for "Scientific Activities and Electronic Resources". In the previous term, he was the head of the Department of "Computer Systems and Technologies". His professional interests are in the field of distributed embedded systems, network programming, multi-layer client/server architectures, and computer networks. He is the author of over 30 scientific publications with over 150 citations and has participated in the implementation of over 10 international and national scientific projects. The former Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Instrumentation, Assoc. Prof. Hristian Panayotov, will now be the Deputy Director for "International Activities and Integration". Assoc. Prof. Panayotov is also a lecturer in the specialty "Aviation Technology and Technologies", and his professional interests are focused on the design and construction of aircraft, aerodynamics, computational fluid mechanics, flight dynamics, multidisciplinary optimization, and flight simulations. He is the author of more than 40 scientific publications in national and international journals and is part of the team of several international and Bulgarian projects. According to the director of the Branch of TU-Sofia, Assoc. Prof. Nikola Shakhev, the portfolios of the new management team correspond to the priorities set in the mandate program and imply an active policy for establishing good traditions and dynamic advancement of the achievements of the higher education institution. The ambition of the new leadership is the sustainable development of the Branch of the Technical University – Sofia as an educational structure with high and recognizable quality of education and scientific research, as well as significance in the public and economic life of the city of Plovdiv and the region.
