The Rector of the Technical University – Sofia, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivan Králov, participated in the show "Day Live" on NOVA NEWS. A number of news items and projects in which TU-Sofia is a leader in development and innovation were discussed. The Technical University – Sofia is developing a project for the construction of a geothermal energy laboratory, Prof. Králov said on the show. "This is one of the promising energy sources, as it is renewable and constant, does not depend on the sun or wind, has no chaotic nature, and can be used for heating and cooling as well. Bulgaria has sufficient resources to effectively utilize this geothermal energy and make it part of the country's energy mix," he further pointed out. The project, developed jointly with the University of Mining and Geology, is included in the Recovery and Resilience Plan. According to the rector of TU-Sofia, serious negotiations are also underway with the World Bank. "The results of the work on this project will make a very significant contribution, which will actually be reflected in our economy."
"In its 78-year history, the Technical University - Sofia has produced more than 160 thousand engineers in the country. In recent years, we have made a number of innovative changes in the educational process. We have turned classical education towards business and industry," he added. At the Technical University - Sofia, there is already a new specialty in which artificial intelligence is studied – noted Prof. Králov. "This is one of the next levels of human development. We are far from true artificial intelligence - a mode of machine operation that is inherent in humans but not guided by them. Step by step, it must be developed," commented the rector of TU-Sofia. According to him, every engineering technology is dangerous if intended for bad purposes: "If this is perceived as a brake, we should not develop in other areas either. It is our responsibility to train the next generation of specialists to develop artificial intelligence in the right direction." He also spoke about the achievements of students and the university's laboratories. "Many of the technologies we develop do not require direct human participation - for example, implants that are spare parts for the human body. We receive the tomographic image electronically and construct the implant through all its procedures, drafting, machine production, then we transport it, and within one to two hours, it is implanted into the person. Thus, we save human lives. All of this is done by machines to a large extent and without our participation," said the Rector of TU-Sofia, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivan Králov.
