The Rector of the Technical University of Sofia, Prof. Ivan Králov, opened today the information day for the implementation of the project "National Center for Mechatronics and Clean Technologies". "This is the largest project in the country with a budget of nearly 70 million leva, and it clearly indicates what we can and must give to society," said Prof. Králov. He emphasized that numerous universities, institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), and partners have united under the project, and results of its implementation are already visible. These are related to modern infrastructure, new machines, and technologies, but most importantly, the participation of young successors, including the top graduates of our cohorts who are researchers in this center, said Prof. Ivan Králov. The Rector of the Technical University of Sofia stressed that all this is a guarantee for the development of the project. The program of the information day, with Prof. Georgi Todorov as moderator, included a documentary film about the "Student City" campus and presentations by the heads of the other two campuses comprising the Center of Excellence for Mechatronics and Clean Technologies. The film about the campus led by Prof. Todorov and the presentations by Corresponding Member Tony Spasov, head of the "Lozenets" campus, and Prof. Plamen Stefanov, head of the "Geo Milev" campus, presented the results of upgrading the research structure of each complex, increasing its research capacity, and its successful utilization. There were also presentations by scientists on significant scientific achievements in modeling and creating materials for clean energy, environmental protection, energy storage, and others. The last presentation was given by Tsvetelina Vladimirova – an expert for monitoring and control, on the execution of the financial plan and the main indicators set in the program for the implementation of the project. At the end of the forum, there was also a visit to the laboratories in the "Student City" campus. Prof. Neli Koseva – Chief Scientific Secretary of BAS, congratulated all project participants on their achieved successes, as well as the hosts from the Technical University of Sofia. "A long time ago, we united to create this huge consortium, which proved that the research capacity in our country in this extremely important field – mechatronics and clean technologies – is compact, and we all work together and unite efforts to meet the challenges," emphasized Prof. Koseva. Corresponding Member Prof. Tony Spasov presented the "Lozenets" campus and noted that Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" participates with two faculties in the Center of Excellence for Mechatronics and Clean Technologies – these are the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy and the Faculty of Physics. Both faculties are located in the "Lozenets" campus. Corresponding Member Spasov presented various laboratories, the scientific equipment in them, and successful research. Both faculties of SU have for many years – for about 50 years – successfully developed structural and microstructural analysis, and in these faculties, new substances and materials are synthesized using various technologies, he explained. Corresponding Member Prof. Tony Spasov is Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". The project on mechatronics and clean technologies is also related to the production and storage of hydrogen, as well as the efficient use of energy, said Corresponding Member Tony Spasov. He announced that there are four young researchers and 12 researchers with academic degrees in the campus who have a permanent commitment to the project for several hours a day. The information day was broadcast on the YouTube channel of the project "National Center for Mechatronics and Clean Technologies".
