Within the framework of the "School for Energy Specialists" program of the Electric Power System Operator (EPSO), students studying the "Electrical Engineering and Electrical Equipment" specialization at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Technical University – Sofia visited the "Sofia – West" 400/110 kV substation in the territory of the Sofia – Region Network Operation District. Third-year students from the capital's forge of electrical engineers familiarized themselves with the operation of the electricity transmission system in a real environment. The purpose of the visit was to stimulate students' interest in future career opportunities within the structures of the Electric Power System Operator and the possibilities for gaining practical experience within the company's internship and scholarship programs. Strictly adhering to safety rules, the students examined the open and closed switchgear of the substation. Future electrical engineers observed a demonstration of automatic fire extinguishing of an autotransformer, as well as a simulation of circuit breaker disconnection by protection. Graduates of TU – Sofia were also introduced to the specifics of work in the substation's control room and followed in real time the processes of managing the electricity transmission system in the territory of the Sofia – Region Network Operation District. The visit to the "Sofia – West" 400/110 kV substation is the first initiative in a series of meetings between EPSO experts and students and teachers from specialized technical universities in the country. Within the framework of the company's ambitious "School for Energy Specialists" program, open house days at EPSO facilities are planned for graduates of the Technical Universities in Varna, Plovdiv, and Gabrovo, as well as a visit to the Central Dispatching Control. The active practical training organized and conducted by the experts of the Electric Power System Operator aims to stimulate interest in the energy profession among young people and to support professional education in the field of electrical engineering in the country.
