A group of students from the "Thermal Engineering and Nuclear Energy" and the master's program "Nuclear Energy" at the Technical University (TU-Sofia) won the second edition of the online competition "HackAtoM". Within 24 hours, they developed and demonstrated a working mobile application for promoting nuclear energy. The nuclear "HackAtoM" seeks the connection between atomic energy and new technologies. This year, a total of five teams of students and schoolchildren from Sofia and Kozloduy participated in the competition. The event, which lasted two days, began with lectures by leading scientists from Russian universities in the field of nuclear energy and physics. The program included topics such as "NPPs with small and medium-sized nuclear reactors and innovative technologies in nuclear energy" with lecturer Denis Doronkov from the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University, "Safety of NPPs with VVER," presented by Assoc. Prof. Mikhail Kuznetsov and Andrey Semenov from the Tomsk Polytechnic University, and "Nuclear energy as a "green player" in the energy market" with lecturer Assoc. Prof. Alexander Nakhabov from the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI. On the second day, students had to find solutions to specific tasks set by the lecturers. Their answers were evaluated by a three-member jury, which included Russian scientists Alexander Nakhabov and Dmitry Samokhin, and Dr. Mladen Mitev, who is the chairman of the Bulgarian Nuclear Society. In second place in "HackAtoM" was another team from TU-Sofia, which presented an educational website dedicated to types of emission-free energy, including nuclear energy. The bronze medal went to students from the Faculty of Physics of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski," with schoolchildren from the 11th grade of the private school "Uwekind" also participating in the team. They presented an educational application in the form of a quiz. The "HackAtoM" initiative, supported by "Rosatom," is inspired by innovations in energy and the environment and their connection with the development of nuclear technologies.
