Eight universities from EU member states, including the Technical University of Sofia, laid the foundations for the creation of a joint European Technological University. The agreement was signed by their rectors during their meeting in Cyprus. The future European educational structure is a new stage of cooperation that builds upon the existing "Alliance of the European Technological University". It brings together eight technical higher education institutions from Bulgaria, Cyprus, Latvia, France, Germany, Ireland, Spain, and Romania, BNR reported. With the agreement signed at a ceremony at the Cyprus University of Technology in Limassol, the "roadmap" for the creation of an integrated European Technological University, a common "umbrella" for the eight participating units, officially begins. The realization of this new ambitious goal is expected to significantly increase the competitiveness of technical education at both national and European levels. Scientific research and innovation will be strengthened, and better relationships between academic education and industry will be created. Around 100,000 students are enrolled in the higher education institutions participating in the project, who will have the opportunity to carry out part of their program at the other universities. Representatives of the student communities from the 8 universities signed a declaration for the creation of the "Student Union of the European Technological University".
