A declaration addressed to the President, the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister for the Management of European Funds, and to the Ministers of Economy and Energy, signed by the Executive Director of "Mines Maritza-East" EAD Andon Andonov, was sent today. The declaration is an appeal to the responsible state authorities for support in seeking innovative projects that will give a future to the Maritza-East complex, while simultaneously meeting all European requirements. The declaration bears 23 signatures calling for the establishment of an expert technical council under the Council of Ministers to review all available technologies related to the capture, storage, or processing of carbon dioxide. The declaration is the result of a meeting held on September 13 at "Mines Maritza-East" EAD, initiated by Andon Andonov, at which the possibilities for the future of the mining-energy complex were discussed. Participants included Deputy Minister of Energy Miroslav Damyanov, Chairpersons of the Energy Commission in Parliament Ivan Khinovski and of the Social Commission Georgi Gyokov, Members of Parliament Tihomir Tenev and Georgi Kadiev, Executive Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of "Bulgarian Energy Holding" EAD Valentin Nikolov and Diyan Dimitrov, Governor of Stara Zagora Region Ivan Cholakov, Mayors of Stara Zagora, Radnevo, Nova Zagora, and Galabovo, Executive Directors of the three thermal power plants in the complex Ivan Tzankov, Zhivko Dinchev, and Krastimir Nenov, Rectors of the Trakia University and the University of Mining and Geology Assoc. Prof. Dobri Yarkov and Prof. Ivelin Koprrev, representatives of the Technical University Prof. Valentin Kolev and Prof. Georgi Todorov, President of the CT "Podkrepa" Dimitar Manolov, Chairman of the FNSM Valentin Valtchev, and energy sector specialists. All participants expressed concern and support for securing a future for the mining-energy complex "Maritza-East" and preserving the livelihoods of people in the region.
