Students from 8 professional fields and 18 protected specialties will study for free. This became possible after the government approved a list of professional fields and protected specialties that are exempt from tuition fees. These fields and specialties have the highest future shortage of specialists in the labor market. The entire course of study is free for students admitted in the 2021/2022 academic year, in specialties from the professional fields "Pedagogy of Instruction in...", "Religion and Theology", "Mathematics", "Physical Sciences", "Chemical Sciences", "Chemical Technologies", "Energy", "Materials and Materials Science". Students in the specialties "Armenian Studies and Caucasian Studies", "African Studies", "Indology", "Iranology", "Classical Philology", "Neogreek Philology", "Romanian Philology", "Hungarian Philology", "Hebraistics" will study without fees. The list also includes "Nuclear Engineering and Nuclear Energy", "Machinery and Equipment for the Food and Biotechnological Industry", "Machinery and Equipment for the Food Industry", "Thermal and Nuclear Energy". Studies will also be free for students admitted to "Nuclear Energy", "Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering", "Hydraulic Engineering", "Metallurgy", "Technology
of Wood and Furniture". The measure is being applied for the second year and will cover 8916 students in the first and second year at 18 state higher education institutions. To cover the tuition fees for the first semester of students admitted in the 2021/2022 academic year, 1.6 million leva will be required. These will be at the expense of planned expenses in the budget of the Ministry of Education and Science for 2021. The funds required for 2022 will be planned with the State Budget Law in the budgets of the respective state higher education institutions. The goal of the measure is to renew the interest of applicants in these important specialties and fields, so that personnel necessary for the economy and public life can be prepared.
