European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Maria Gabriel opened the laboratory complexes under the project to the Competence Center "Intelligent Mechatronic, Eco- and Energy-Efficient Systems and Technologies" in the building of Block III of the Technical University - Plovdiv Branch. "More than ever, Europe, which is a leader in science, needs to become a leader in innovation. Innovation must find its application in industry," Maria Gabriel emphasized. The building is a cultural monument and was formerly known as the French Girls' College. 2.2 million leva were invested in the renovation, and the equipment of the center is valued at 9.8 million leva. The restoration of the building is the first stage of the construction of the Competence Center "Mechatronic, Eco- and Energy-Efficient Systems and Technologies". An information day was also held during the event to present the progress of the project. The activities in the Center are funded by the Operational Programme "Science and Education for Intelligent Growth", co-financed by the European Union through the European Structural and Investment Funds. Partners in the project are the Technical Universities in Sofia, Gabrovo, Varna, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", the Institute of Robotics and the Institute of Electronics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, as well as the Central Laboratory for Applied Physics of the Academy.
