The collaboration between Technical University – Sofia and Huawei Technologies Bulgaria for the creation of the first Bulgarian Huawei ICT Academy began a year ago – in April 2020. It was established in early June with the idea to start conducting courses with students during the 2020/2021 academic year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, plans for the full-scale implementation of Huawei ICT Academy activities will be realized this year. "As one of the largest manufacturers of networking equipment, Huawei introduces a new model of computer networking training, which uses not only simulators but also real modern devices provided by the company. With their help, students acquire new knowledge and expand their practical skills, which are in demand by the business," according to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Georgi Tsochev, a certified instructor at the academy. The courses on "Network Information Security" in the master's program "Computer Systems and Technologies" and the bachelor's program "Information Technologies in Industry" have been updated. Practical sessions with specialized Huawei equipment installed in the Cybersecurity and Prevention Laboratory have been included. "Graduating from the specialized program of the Huawei ICT Academy gives students practical knowledge and skills that are highly valued by employers. The program is intended for all IT professionals wishing to expand their knowledge of building and maintaining information security solutions for small and medium-sized businesses. The demand for specialists in the field of network administration, information protection, firewall configuration, and network security in general in the country is huge. Specialists with such knowledge are currently sought after by all major companies with salary offers above 4000 BGN," stated Assoc. Prof. Dr. Antoniya Tasheva – coordinator of the Huawei ICT Academy at the Technical University and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Computer Systems and Technologies. Plans for the development of the Huawei ICT Academy include increasing the number of trainees and certifying more instructors in additional topics. The partnership between the university and the business, in this case with Huawei, contributes to maintaining up-to-date curricula that will ensure prepared personnel for the needs of the business.
