The future of the "Maritza East" complex in the light of the new opportunities offered by science and technology was discussed today at a meeting at the headquarters of the coal company. The meeting was attended by Andon Andonov, Executive Director of "Mini Maritza East" EAD, the rectors of the University of Mining and Geology and the Technical University - Prof. Dr. Ivailo Koprnev and Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivan Kralov. Also participating in the meeting were Prof. Dr. Eng. Toto Totev, Dean of the Faculty of Energy Engineering at the Technical University, and Prof. Georgi Todorov, Deputy Dean for Research and International Integration at the higher education institution. The focus of the discussions was a project to extend the life of the complex, which has the support of the highest level in the state and should be included in the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Republic of Bulgaria. The scientists emphasized that their goal is to create an intelligent structure that will withstand all European requirements for carbon neutrality. During the conversation, it became clear that a pre-project study is underway, which should determine the possibilities for capturing, transporting, storing, and utilizing CO2 within the country. All participants in the meeting emphasized their concern and great interest in the possibility of the complex continuing to operate. The guests expressed confidence that a vision with a "green element" meets the requirements and conditions of the Green Deal and defined their goal as a mission of science in support of energy in Bulgaria. The interest is strategic, and everyone was unanimous. The topics were later discussed at a meeting with Zhivko Dinchev, Executive Director of TEZ "Maritza East 2" EAD.
