It is not known in Europe to chip cars in this way, as is planned in our country with the new stickers. The effectiveness is questionable, considering the costs that will be incurred. This was commented on by Radio Sofia by Eng. Iliyan Damyanov, deputy head of the Department "Engines, Automotive Engineering and Transport" at the Technical University. Are there options for "tuning" vehicles to cover the eco groups that will be imposed from July 2021? "There are certainly options for manipulation. The question is how successful they would be and whether they can be adequately achieved. The best option is for the car to be technically sound and to meet all the characteristics set by the car manufacturer itself." Which vehicles emit the most harmful emissions? Now the new eco groups will be imposed on new cars and light trucks, up to 3.5 tons. According to Eng. Damyanov, this is not necessary, as the costs that will be borne by people. "Whoever wants to enter the city should pass an inspection and stick a similar sticker and only use it." The same applies to those entering the territory of Bulgaria, as well as when entering more polluted cities and villages, Damyanov believes. What are the useful practices from abroad that can be imposed in our country? "The administration wants to control the technical condition of the cars - to be in order. This is important for the air, of course. But as far as I read, this chip is for single use, and this type of technology is effective when used repeatedly. In Europe, the registration number is mainly used. In the field of digital technologies, there are so-called LTR cameras or license plate cameras. They are used everywhere." Damyanov cited London as an example, where this type of vehicle identification is used everywhere, both for paid parking and the Blue Zone. The idea is that every citizen who installs this chip should do it once, after which only the data for the eco group, for mileage, when we pass a technical inspection, will be added. According to Damyanov, it is not a good combination for the chip to be in the annual technical inspection sticker. Harmful emissions or dusting are a more serious problem for air cleanliness, and is there a logical way to deal with them. Eng. Iliyan Damyanov referred to Eurostat data for Bulgaria.
