From March 11 to 13, 2021, the seventh edition of the hackathon of the Technological University "Electronic Systems" (TUES) at the Technical University of Sofia took place. It was attended by 185 students in 43 teams, as well as 44 mentors and 26 companies. The main theme of the competition was Develop for the environment - technologies for the benefit of the environment.
The special award of Comet Electronics for the best project with embedded microcomputer systems was won by the team "789 2.0", consisting of 12th-grade students Iliana Genova, Venelin Atanasov, and Stefan Antonov. Over the two working days, they managed to develop an IoT system for managing and visualizing conditions in the home environment.
The project aims to manage home systems in a "smart" way, reducing unnecessary electricity consumption. Using sensors, the system monitors air pollution levels (harmful gases and particulate matter), informing the user when levels are dangerously high. The team "Dynamics" placed third! They created GRobot, a robot that moves and, based on artificial intelligence, recognizes and collects waste. The eleventh-grade students from team "Dynamics" - Liliya Lyubenova, Angel Stoyanov, Evgeni Atanasov, and Denis Zahariev, were also awarded by Astea Solutions. The award was presented by Kaloyan Angelov - the coordinator of Hack TUES 6. Second place went to team "Mecho Puh". The eleventh-grade students - Alexander Naydenov, Stefan Bosev, Stoyan Tintchev, and Kristian Stoimenov, created a chat-bot that, using machine self-learning, helps users learn more about the ecological problems surrounding them and how to solve them. The award was presented by the scientific supervisor of TUES at TU-Sofia - Tanya Vasileva. The winners also took the TelebidPro award. First place at this year's hackathon - Hack TUES GG, was taken by the application CycleMap, which offers the most convenient route for cyclists to a specific destination, based on ratings from other users and factors such as air pollution. The creators of the project are the twelfth-grade students from team "Holdinga" - Viktor Gorchilov, Valentin Spasov, Samuil Georgiev, and Anton Yanchev, and the technologies they used are Graph DB, Nest JS, and React. The award was presented personally by the Dean of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Technologies at the Technical University - Sofia - Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivo Iliev. The champions also took the awards from WWF Bulgaria, Strypes, and the award for the best presentation at the semi-final. A novelty this year was the game #creatememories. In it, participants had to post on Instagram - a photo from the work process, a meme, or a drawing related to the hackathon. The winners were the tenth-grade students from team Smertь with their 172 likes. They took the award from Nemetschek Bulgaria, as well as for the best presentation at semi-final 1. At semi-final 2, the tenth-grade students in team 3488 distinguished themselves as good presenters. The Rising Star award for the best project among eighth graders was taken by team Nice Inc. Awards were taken by four mentors. The "Quick Reaction" awards went to Boyan Georgiev from Experian Bulgaria, Hristo Spasov from TelebidPro, Yanislav Trendafilov from VMware Bulgaria, and Evgeni Dimov from Americaneagle.com. They were evaluated based on the most problems resolved within the two working days.
