At a solemn online ceremony organized by the "24 Chasa" newspaper, 21 academic Oscars were awarded. Thus, the rectors of universities that were top performers in the rating system of higher education institutions in Bulgaria were honored. The ceremony was the fifth in a row. Sofia University is ranked first in 23 professional fields. The Minister of Education and Science, Krastimir Valkov, presented the award to Prof. Anastas Gerdzhikov. "I am proud that we are doing well, and I am also proud of the other Bulgarian universities that are performing in this wonderful way," said Prof. Gerdzhikov. "These are great achievements for universities in years of difficulties. The University of National and World Economy in Sofia received a special award for the most prestigious higher education institution in the most popular professional field, Economics, according to employers and teachers in higher education institutions. Milena Karailieva, Director of Human Resources at Kaufland, presented the honor to the rector. "I admire the rating system; it creates healthy competition and the best quality. UNWE has always been a reliable partner of Kaufland with the excellent quality of experts it produces. These are people who then, in managerial or expert positions, build their careers in our company. They influence the employees and also over 1 million customers who visit our stores weekly," said Karailieva. The American University in Bulgaria has first places in two professional fields. Andrea Tonietti, Director of Human Resources at UniCredit Bulbank, presented the honor to Dr. David Evans, President of the American University in Bulgaria. Dr. David Evans said: "We would be very happy to partner in the implementation of the new higher education strategy." The quality of education has always been our leading priority. We at UniCredit Bulbank wish to support real initiatives that lead to an improvement in the quality of higher education," said Andrea Tonietti. The Veliko Tarnovo University "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" received a special award. The higher education institution also has first place in the professional fields of History and Archaeology, Philology, Philosophy, and Theory and Management of Education for a higher education institution outside Sofia. Georgi Stoychev from "Open Society" presented the award to Prof. Milko Palangurski, Vice-Rector of Veliko Tarnovo University. "Last year, competition finally recovered - for a place among applicants and for assistant positions, which will lead to higher quality," said Prof. Palangurski. Medical University - Sofia has 4 first places. Radomir Cholakov, Executive Director of "Kaolin" EAD, presented the award to the rector, Acad. Lachezar Traykov. "At the moment, this is the most important university. It is also the most important scientific unit in the world," said Radomir Cholakov. Acad. Lachezar Traykov thanked: "The year is a big challenge for all universities. We have all grown in our ability to use modern technologies to provide quality education. The trend of active cooperation between universities and the state, especially in the field of science, should be even more emphasized. I am proud of our students - 240 students volunteered their labor during the heaviest months of the pandemic. The award of Medical University - Plovdiv was received by the rector, Prof. Mariana Murdzheva. It was presented by Minister Krastimir Valkov. University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy - Sofia has first place in 3 professional fields. Zhivko Nedev, Executive Director of "Hydrostroy", presented the award to the rector, Prof. Senya Terzieva. "In a pandemic situation, your work is extremely difficult because, in addition to your high professional skills in training, you must also apply other skills for communication with young people during the pandemic. I am convinced that we will also reap the fruits of your work through the placement of your students," said Zhivko Nedev. "It is traditional for us to have first place in these fields. I hope we will continue to be leaders in them," said Prof. Terzieva. Trakia University - Stara Zagora has two first places; Prof. Nikolai Mihaylov - member of the supervisory board of "Trace Group Holding" presented the award to the rector, Assoc. Prof. Dobri Yarkov. Prof. Nikolai Mihaylov himself was awarded the honorary title "Doctor Honoris Causa" of the higher education institution. The rector, Assoc. Prof. Dobri Yarkov, said that from March 1, the first university veterinary hospital in Bulgaria will start operating - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There will be an emergency department and mobile clinics. If you need it, we are always at your disposal for your pets," said Assoc. Prof. Yarkov. Agricultural University - Plovdiv has two first places. Georgi Stoychev presented the award to the rector, Prof. Hristina Yancheva. University of Food Technologies - Plovdiv has 1 first place. Milena Karailieva from Kaufland presented the award to Assoc. Prof. Atanaska Teneva, Vice-Rector of UFT. Forestry University has 1 first place. Nikolai Valkanov presented the award to the rector of Forestry University, Prof. Ivan Iliev. Prof. Iliev said that the awards influence the competition between professional fields and universities. The rector of the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, Prof. Ivan Markov, received the award from Yana Bodurova from "Glavbolgarstroy". "It is an exceptional honor for us to be your partner and a good employer, Eng. Markov," said Yana Bodurova. "Together with everyone, we completed the work - thank you to the academic staff, students, employees, and partners," said Prof. Markov. University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilski" - Sofia is again among the top performers. Kiril Iliev, Executive Director of "GeoTrading", presented the prize to the rector, Prof. Ivaylo Koprrev. Eng. Kiril Iliev said: "I would like to congratulate the organizers of the ceremony for giving a valuable indicator of the quality of education in our country even in this difficult situation. I am happy to present the award to the University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilski" in the field of "Exploration, Mining and Processing of Mineral Resources". Congratulations to all of you colleagues who proved the high level and vitality of Bulgarian education." Georgi Stoychev presented to Assoc. Prof. Lyubomir Hristov, Dean of the Faculty of Screen Arts at NATFA. Radomir Cholakov awarded the rector of the National Academy of Music, Prof. Sava Dimitrov, and the rector of the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts "Prof. Asen Diamandiev" - Prof. Toni Shekerdjieva - Novak. Venelina Gocheva presented the award to the National Sports Academy. It was received by Prof. Apostol Slavchev, Vice-Rector for Education Quality and Accreditation. The rector of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Senior Commissioner Assoc. Prof. Ivan Vidolov, received the award from Yana Bodurova. "We are happy to be in first place this year in the field of 'National Security'. We are constantly making efforts to improve ourselves," said Assoc. Prof. Vidolov. The Vice-Rector of the Technical University - Sofia, Prof. Lyubomir Dimitrov, received the award on behalf of "Dundee Precious". It was presented to him by the Executive Director of the company, Iliya Gerkov. Prof. Lyubomir Dimitrov said that the rating system is a powerful stimulus for improving financing and quality. "The rating system is a powerful weapon for the choice of applicants. Competition is not only in Bulgaria, not only in Europe, but in the world," said Prof. Dimitrov. TU has united with 7 more European universities and we are the European Technological University. I congratulate the Technical University in Sofia and the entire technical community for achieving these successes in this challenging year," said Iliya Gerkov.
