The Government approved the establishment of the Institute for Sustainable Transition and Development within the structure of Trakia University - Stara Zagora. It is planned that fundamental and applied research will be conducted in the university's and the country's priority areas of science. It will bring together the work of research groups in three sectors: "Economic Analysis and Projects", "Agriculture and Biotechnology", and "Mining and Energy Systems", which will work on projects from national and international scientific programs, and will prepare forecasts and strategies for the development of the regional and national economy. The new unit will operate in partnership with the Technical University - Sofia, the University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilski", local authorities, and nationally representative organizations of workers and employees. The establishment of the Institute is at the request of the rector of the higher education institution and will be a modern scientific infrastructure that unites the research activities of the three higher education institutions in interdisciplinary research with better conditions and more opportunities for the participation of doctoral students and students in its scientific activities. Research will be conducted in the fields of new industrial technologies, biotechnology, energy systems and supply security, digitalization and smart grids in urban environments, mining, agriculture and forestry, and electric mobility.
