A creative environment is needed, stated Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivan Králov. Tomorrow, schoolchildren will return to school, but university students will remain in online learning. The Technical University of Sofia is one of our largest higher education institutions. "Engineering education is not suitable to be conducted entirely in an electronic environment. At our university, a large part of the education takes place in laboratory facilities. A creative environment is needed, and we work with a lot of equipment. All of this implies in-person learning. We cannot ignore the danger either - health is the most important thing," commented the Rector of TU-Sofia, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivan Králov. In the studio of "Bulgaria Morning," he pointed out that the presence of students in laboratories followed immediately by online learning creates problems. The combination is not possible, according to Eng. Králov. "We have problems with foreign students; a large part of them are having difficulty coming for in-person learning. We hope to return to in-person learning as soon as possible - this is what the students and a large part of the faculty desire," emphasized the Rector of the Technical University - Sofia. From his words on Bulgaria ON AIR, it also became clear that they expect to switch to an in-person mode in the spring, but this is conditional. "The technical challenges have been largely overcome. The issue is that we want our graduates to acquire skills that are gained on-site. These will be compensated with intensified in-person learning and extended exam sessions. A large part of them have come to become true specialists, and this motivation will yield results in their return to laboratories and halls," stated the Rector. According to him, the grades from the last exam session correspond to those of previous years, with a slight increase, but it is not clear whether some students are using unauthorized methods. "We will not return to the former classical in-person learning. There will be online learning, which will allow us to reduce in-person hours. We will focus on the skills to build creators," stated Prof. Králov. In the coming days, a mobile vaccination point will be established at TU-Sofia. About 700 people - 45% of the faculty and staff - have registered for vaccination. The university has 145 hygienists who take care of disinfection - they are also included in the vaccination lists. Coronavirus tests are also being conducted among faculty and staff, which are covered by the higher education institution.
