Mass returns to banks are not expected, many universities remain online. Medical students will practice only in summer, young musicians queue for a safe harp. Hundreds of students are currently in an online exam session. Universities have completed the first semester remotely, with a few planning live lectures for the second semester. Among them is Sofia University. "We hope that the epidemic situation will allow us to start in-person classes after a month, even if we then need to switch back to online learning. A few weeks in-person training will help us a lot, as it did during the first semester," said the rector, Prof. Anastas Gerdzhikov, who is also the head of the Rectors' Council. Following a similar scheme - with two weeks of in-person learning, all senior students will gradually return to classrooms starting February 4. At UNSS, the second semester starts on February 1, and a decision will be made tomorrow on how. “For us, the problem is that when we had hybrid learning, in the building per day entered about 10,000 people. It depends on the attitudes of the minister and the national authorities,” commented the rector, Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov. They are prepared for a hybrid option, as at the beginning of the last semester - some come in person, others listen online, as well as continuing only online. Fully in-person is not possible - our students are about 16,000, he says. In an electronic environment, the continuation at TUS in Sofia was announced by the rector, Prof. Ivan Králov. "If conditions in the country allow, from February 15 all will return to the lecture halls. We strongly hope to gradually return to a normal educational process," stated the rector of the Technical University of Varna "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" prof. Hristo Bonzholov. Otherwise, students study on a specially developed e-platform, and applications will also be electronic. The universities in Varna continue to operate in an e-environment, and the application forms are also electronic. At the Medical University, for clinical and specialized disciplines where on-site training is of exceptional importance, as well as for students' practical training, the university provides the opportunity to make up for missed content during the summer vacation or within a higher course. At the University of Economics - Varna, the doctoral candidate exams will be held in person next month. There is also an arrangement for in-person laboratory and practical sessions for undergraduates, but their lectures will remain online. The exception for maritime specialties is made by the Varna Technical University, as their internships do not allow for remote conduct. The university is postponed until March 1st start of the summer semester ready to begin hybrid upon easing of measures, and then fully in-person. At UST “Chernorizets Hrabar”, only practical exams and defenses in the Faculty of Architecture are held in person. Only sixth-year students at MU-Plovdiv conduct their clinical internship in person. It lasts 1 year and has not been interrupted during the pandemic. At Plovdiv University “Paissiy Hilendarski”, regular students completed their practical exercises back in the fall. According to surveys, both faculty and students prefer in-person lectures. At the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts in Plovdiv, from December, students preparing for state exams are allowed to attend practical exercises that cannot be conducted online, such as sculpture and graphics. This also applies to students who play specific instruments like the organ and harp, which they do not have at home. A list is being compiled, and musicians enter the classrooms one by one every 3 hours, after ventilation and disinfection, explained the rector, Prof. Toni Shekerdjieva-Nova. Lecture courses across all disciplines have been digitized, which would have taken years to complete if not for the pandemic, she notes. However, she adds that in the arts, nothing can compare to live presence. At the University of Burgas Free, the second semester starts in March, and they are awaiting an order from the Minister of Health. At the state university "Prof. Asen Zlatarov," practical classes are only held for specialties such as electronics and medicine. At South-West University, there is no on-site teaching, only some exams with a practical component. In all universities, an organization has been established for the on-site conduct of state exams.
