Prof. Valentin Kolev, energy expert and Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at TU-Sofia
The transition to a carbon-free energy sector cannot proceed without the development of nuclear capacity. Bulgaria's accession to the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development is a very correct decision and will help our country in its international contacts in nuclear technology. This was stated by Prof. Valentin Kolev, energy expert and Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at TU-Sofia, in the show "In Development" hosted by Delyan Petrishki. The less liquid an energy exchange is, the more sensitive it will be to differences between supply and demand, which also applies to the Bulgarian Independent Energy Exchange, the guest explained the unpredictability in price levels. "Consumption in Bulgaria is highly dependent on weather conditions, i.e., demand increases by 100-120 megawatts when the average daily temperature drops by just one degree." "In the last few weeks or month, there has been movement at the European level regarding nuclear capacity, because it seems that experts have realized that a smooth, fair transition to a carbon-free energy sector cannot proceed without the development of these capacities," Kolev commented.
