The construction site will be officially opened on November 26. TU-Sofia begins the implementation of a large-scale research project. The Technical University – Sofia is building a research technological laboratory complex with European funding under the UNIte (Universities for Science, Informatics and Technologies in e-Society) project of the Operational Programme "Science and Education for Intelligent Growth" (OP SEIG). The project is funded by European Structural and Investment Funds, and the approved budget amounts to 29,781,883 leva. The contractor for the construction and installation works is DZZD "Proektstroy – Link" – Gabrovo. The construction site will be opened on Thursday, November 26, the university announced. The management of TU-Sofia is ambitious to build an internationally recognized, significant regional development distributed scientific infrastructure that will be part of the national and European roadmap. In the context of a knowledge-based economy and digital transformation of society, the laboratory complex is expected to be a driving force for sustainability and recovery from the crisis associated with Covid-19. Through scientific research in collaboration with business and partner scientific organizations within the UNIte project, innovative technological solutions will be developed to provide competitive advantages. The project involves the construction and development of a Center of Excellence of the type distributed research infrastructure UNIte, meeting the requirements for a high level of scientific research in the priority area "Informatics and Information and Communication Technologies" of the Innovation Strategy for Intelligent Specialization (ISIS) 2014-2020. The project goals are focused on improving the opportunities for researchers and academic staff from different geographical regions in Bulgaria (Burgas, Ruse, Sofia, Shumen) to collaborate with each other and with partners from Europe and the world, through access and work at the UNIte CoE. The laboratory complex will facilitate and improve communication and information flows between participating organizations. They will be able to use specialized software solutions and communication systems that, in addition to an environment for innovation, ensure connectivity and protection of copyright and flexible management in support of research and implementation of their results in real conditions. This is a way to introduce a new type of work organization that will predominate in the next decade, the university emphasized.
