PMG "Vasil Drumev" in Veliko Tarnovo will be the first associated high school to the Technical University of Sofia. The proposal by the VMRO MP and Deputy Chair of the Commission on Education and Science of the National Assembly, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Milen Mihov, was met with understanding by Minister Krastimir Valchev, and at his initiative, a remote working meeting has already been held, during which the issue of the development of digital sciences and computer science education in Veliko Tarnovo was discussed. The meeting was attended by Prof. Ivan Králov, Rector of TU, the high school director Angel Gusev, Penka Ignatova, Director of the Directorate "Education, Youth Activities and Sports" in the Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo, and experts from the Ministry of Education. According to the Higher Education Act, every higher education institution has the right to conclude association agreements with secondary schools. The first such agreement for the association of a school with TU will be with PMG "Vasil Drumev" in the old capital. These agreements aim to develop programs and carry out training with scientific and teaching support from higher education institutions, explained Assoc. Prof. Mihov. An agreement and consensus have been reached that PMG will be the first associated high school to TU based on the new provisions of the Higher Education Act, thereby providing the opportunity to establish a new specialty and parallel class "System Programming" in the field of "Computer Science" from the next academic year, with teaching staff from both PMG and TU in Sofia. The goal is to attract students not only from Tarnovo and the Tarnovo region, but to become a regional center for training specialists with secondary education. This is an important condition for the development of Veliko Tarnovo as a center of modern technologies and digital skills, noted Assoc. Prof. Mihov. The Ministry of Education and Science firmly supports the initiative, and Prof. Ivan Králov has declared that TU will gladly take on the scientific and teaching leadership of this program, which aims to develop PMG as a regional center for Northern Bulgaria in the training of young specialists in computer science and digital technologies, the MP added.
