On 29.09.2022 at 10:00 in the conference hall of the Business Incubation Center, Prof. Dr. Janusz Kozinski from Lakehead University, Canada, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and guest lecturer at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications under the "Erasmus+" program, presented his lectures "A Modern Technical University – No Borders, Just Frontiers" and "Shaping the World – Biofuture".
Professor Janusz Kozinski has had a distinguished academic career at leading institutions in the USA, Europe, and Canada. He is an internationally recognized leader in higher education, a researcher and entrepreneur, and one of the most widely recognized experts in the world in sustainable energy systems. Having completed his education in Krakow, Poland, he subsequently conducted research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and spent much of his academic career at McGill University, where he served as Deputy Director for International Relations. He is a founding member of the Lassonde School of Engineering in Toronto and the founder and president of the New University in Hereford, which is one of the most ambitious initiatives in British higher education. Currently, he is the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Lakehead University in Canada. He is the author of over 400 publications in renowned scientific journals.
Abstract 1: A Modern Technical University – No Borders, Just Frontiers
This presentation will consider the evolution from a concept of a ‘Uni-versity’ to a ‘Multi-versity’. It will outline a purpose-designed approach to higher education considering selected megatrends and future skills. It will also consider a subject of human-technology interactions focusing on new concepts of (1) Beyond Sustainability, and (2) Post–Humanist Society. The proposed approach is an aspiration, an attitude, and a way of being. It is a vision that is co-imagined and co-created. It is expected that this presentation will bolster the understanding of evolutionary trends across universities and foster engagement among participants.
Abstract 2: Shaping the World – Biofuture
The lecture will consider scientific/engineering subjects related to new concepts of clean energy. It will outline several research frontiers focusing on bio-energy and green hydrogen generation in supercritical water medium. It will also define trans-disciplinary collaborative platforms integrating current research megatrends. One of the purposes of this lecture is to share with young researchers a new approach for not only solving energy problems of today and tomorrow but to inspire each other to improve the social fabric of our societies. We will include time for interactive discussions. It is expected that this lecture will elevate creative confidence among students and faculty.
