The anniversary was marked with a solemn ceremony in the TechArena hall at TU – Sofia. Guests at the event included representatives of the rectorate leadership, former and current faculty members, department partners, alumni, and students.
The head of the department, Assoc. Prof. Boryana Ilieva, presented the key dates, events, and personalities that contributed to its development. She emphasized that for seven decades, the department has made a significant contribution to the development of engineering education and scientific research, training generations of highly qualified specialists. Today, the department is an authoritative academic center that contributes to the development of modern engineering sciences and the implementation of new technologies in practice. Students from almost all faculties of the university are trained there.
In her welcome address, Vice Rector Prof. Liydia Galabova confirmed that she remembers her drawing exercises from her student years at TU – Sofia. She delivered a congratulatory speech on behalf of the academic leadership, highlighting that with its experience, modern material base, and commitment to continuous improvement, the Department of Fundamentals and Technical Means for Design continues to be a symbol of quality, professionalism, and academic development.
The Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Stiliyan Nikolov, stated that the Department of Fundamentals and Technical Means for Design lays the foundation upon which future engineers are trained. According to him, very few graduates of the Technical University – Sofia have not been trained in the Department, and the rapid development of technology has been incorporated into its work and teaching methods.
Anniversary plaques and certificates were presented to former faculty members and distinguished members of the department.
