
During her visit, Commissioner Iliana Ivanova was accompanied by the Head of the European Commission Representation, Mrs. Yordanka Chobanova. From the side of TU – Sofia, the Rector of the university, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivan Králov, the Deputy Rector for International Activities and Integration, Prof. Dr. Eng. Lidia Galabova, and Prof. Dr. Eng. Lyubomir Dimitrov – Head of the "European Technological University" project, were present.
Prof. Králov acquainted Commissioner Ivanova with the university's achievements, its modern infrastructure, and drew attention to the close cooperation between the university and business. Alongside the traditional activity of joint scientific projects with international companies, new specialties have been developed in recent years.
Prof. Dimitrov presented the work of TU – Sofia as part of the European Technological University alliance and its collaboration with the other eight partners. In the direction of integrated European programs across various campuses, a key achievement of the EUT+ alliance is its clearly expressed focus on enhancing the competitiveness of higher technical education and its efforts towards creating a unified European diploma, enabling students from partner universities to study according to common curricula and, upon completion of their studies, receive a European certificate recognized by the partners.
The Commissioner also visited the National Center for Mechatronics and Clean Technologies, "Student City" campus, where she closely acquainted herself with the center's activities and its latest scientific projects and developments.
The work of the newly established Centers of Excellence and Centers of Competence was presented, which offer very good conditions for the professional realization of graduating students. A key point during the meeting was the unique in the country model of teaching in the university's foreign-language faculties, where graduates receive double diplomas. Commissioner Ivanova described this model as aligned with the ambitions to create a common European diploma.
