
The Rector of the Technical University – Sofia, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivan Kralov, thanked them for their high calling and stated that the university will continue to attract young, talented, and academically ambitious Bulgarian students, while at the same time expecting even more international students who can also study at the largest technical university in our country and in the Balkans. Prof. Kralov emphasized that everyone should benefit from the advantages of new technologies. The Rector stated that currently 9 percent are international students and added that their percentage is increasing, with modern specialties being opened annually where the main focus of teaching is new technologies, and the instruction in them is in a foreign language. Prof. Kralov noted that the Technical University – Sofia has three foreign-language faculties, with instruction in English, German, and French, and they are accredited in the respective European countries. He stated that this gives reason for pride and thanked the Ministry of Education and Science and the government, which in recent years have attached exceptional importance to the quality of education. The Rector added that the top graduates remain at the university and work in the new centers of excellence and competence. This, in his opinion, proves sustainability and there should be a striving for high quality in scientific research and reaching global horizons. We must, concluded Prof. Kralov, make young specialists stay in Bulgaria and develop their careers here, because business offers excellent opportunities for realization.

The "24 Chasa" newspaper organized the ninth official ceremony for the awarding of the "Academic Oscars" - awards for universities that are first in the ranking of higher education institutions by professional fields.

For 2024, 51 accredited higher education institutions offering education in Bulgaria within 52 professional fields were included in the Rating System. Based on dozens of indicators, various aspects of the educational process, scientific activity, learning environment, the offered social and domestic and administrative services, the prestige and regional significance of higher education institutions, as well as the employment of graduates in the labor market, were measured.

The Bulgarian Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation, Ekaterina Zaharieva, rectors of the other universities that are first in the rankings by professional fields, and representatives of business attended the ceremony. Traditionally, the Minister of Education and Science, Krassimir Valchev, the Mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, the Chairman of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences - Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva, ministers of education and science from Bulgarian governments since 1990, and prominent students were also invited to attend.
