The European University of Technology (EUt+) is an alliance of nine technological universities from across Europe, united by the ambition to create a radically new university that is highly inclusive, active at both local and European levels, and delivers high achievements and added value for European society, economy, and culture.
The goal of EUt+ is to achieve a radical transformation in the quality, performance, and efficiency of technology-oriented higher education. EUt+ will have a physical presence in 9 European countries and will support a multi-level learning environment that has a real impact at local and European levels and provides significant social and economic benefits for all stakeholders.
By 2025, EUt+ will undergo a transformation process that will turn it into a global portal for education, research, and innovation embedded in all European regions, addressing key social needs through human-centric technology. EUt+ will embody the European vision of building a socio-technical world, placing people and society as the primary beneficiaries of technological development through an approach inspired by applications and focused on solutions. EUt+ will reach not only those who traditionally attend university – every citizen will be invited to participate in building Europe through the activities of EUt+. With an academic community of 120,000+ students and academic staff and deep roots in the community, EUt+ will be an inclusive mirror of European society, embracing its ethics and values, providing working solutions to the challenges of European integration and sustainability.
The European University of Technology, through the synergy of its members and associated partners, will undertake the following new missions:
▪ Offering new pathways for diversifying university education for European citizens, empowering citizens with the critical competencies needed to transform Europe;
▪ Improving economic outcomes and promoting flexibility and resilience for all participants through partnership and critical analysis; and
▪ Targeted policy actions towards sustainable solutions through cultural reflection on the complex issues of technology and society.
Through progressively integrated development programs, EUt+ partners will create a multilingual and multicultural learning environment, harmonized curricula, and a shared extended infrastructure benefiting all participants at local, national, and transnational levels. There will be a constant emphasis on issues such as sustainable development, freedom, security, and respect for diversity. The educational process will encourage learner autonomy, the use of inclusive methods, interdisciplinary approaches, self-learning, and self-assessment. Educational initiatives will take deep root in specialized and interdisciplinary research programs, many of which will also address public issues. EUt+ will work through pilot initiatives to develop common European education, accredited at national and European levels, which will promote mobility.
This project is coordinated by Université de technologie de Troyes (France) and includes eight additional members:
- Université de technologie de Troyes – Troyes University of Technology (France) – coordinator;
- Technical University of Sofia – Technical University – Sofia (Bulgaria);
- Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences – University of Applied Sciences – Darmstadt (Germany);
- Technological University Dublin – Technological University – Dublin (Ireland);
- Riga Technical University – Riga Technical University – Riga (Latvia);
- Universitatea Tehnică din Cluj-Napoca – Technical University – Cluj-Napoca (Romania);
- Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena ‒ Technical University ‒ Cartagena (Spain);
- Cyprus University of Technology ‒ Cyprus University of Technology (Cyprus);
- UNICAS - University of Cassino and Southern Lazio.
The management of EUt+ is distributed equally among the member institutions on a rotational basis. It is envisaged that as a result of the project work, a confederation of equal members – the participating universities – will be created.
Within the framework of this project, applications will be submitted for other projects under various European programmes, which will ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of common ideas, values, and vision.
The pilot initiatives in the initial phase share best practices in the field of knowledge transfer, supporting industry for the various university initiatives (internships, traineeships, industrial projects, professional competitions, etc.). They benefit the member universities, the national economic environment, as well as other national and international institutions through knowledge transfer and capacity building.
The goal of EUt+ is that by 2025, the pilot initiatives and experiments will lead to the following results:
• a European master's degree in engineering / European engineering title;
• European dual study programs;
• European research unit for engineering pedagogy;
• Networked technological platforms for shared projects between university laboratories;
• Integrated higher education institutions;
• Interdisciplinary pan-European research laboratory for the links between science and technology;
• Public exchange platform involving citizen participation.
The newest member of EUt+ is the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio (UNICAS), which officially joined the alliance on November 1, 2023, for the next four-year period. UNICAS fully shares the mission and vision of EUt+ at a very high level and meets the criteria set by the Alliance for its integration.
With 9 partners in 9 countries, totaling over 100,000 students in a single European university, EUt+ demonstrates a stable position in the European space. The vision and mission of EUt+ are supported by the key role that technology plays in building an inclusive and sustainable future. Humanity today faces unprecedented challenges, such as climate change, overuse of resources, and the social consequences of the transition to a digital society.
EUt+ is a symbol of Europe's future, building a leading institutional model for technology development that is entirely human-centric.
The accession of UNICAS University of Cassino and Southern Lazio (Italy) to EUt+ is evidence of the Alliance's sustainable mission execution. EUt+ demonstrates its leading position among European universities as a pioneer in a model of deep institutional transformation of the European higher education environment, centered around the idea 'Think Human First'.
