With its long-term vision to unite eight (currently nine) universities – members from all European geographical regions – and to become a single entity with unified management and a common budget, the European University of Technology (EUt+) holds a leading position among European universities as a pioneer of a model for deep institutional transformation of the European higher education landscape. The alliance's mission aligns with current challenges: "There is an urgent need for action to address global challenges, where technology will play a leading role; the European University of Technology will serve as a starting point for policymakers and help steer the European strategy towards common, evidence-based solutions to global problems."
Timoteo Turi, Secretary General of the Alliance, noted: "Our union has a stable vision, based on our first 3 years of experience in development and organization. This was also recognized by the experts who awarded EUt+ a high score of 96 out of 100 for its project proposal in response to the call of the European Universities Initiative for 2023."
The University of Cassino and Southern Lazio (UNICAS) will officially join the European University of Technology (EUt+) Alliance on November 1, 2023, for the next 4-year period.
UNICAS shares the mission and vision at a very high level and meets most of the criteria set by the Alliance for the integration of the ninth member.
University of Cassino and Southern Lazio (University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, UNICAS)
Marco dell’Isola, Rector of UNICAS, stated: "We will become the Italian campus of EUt+."
UNICAS is a public higher education institution founded in 1979 and located in a strategic geographical position between Rome and Naples, with a total of 7,500 students, 280 faculty and researchers, and 250 staff. UNICAS has five departments: Civil and Mechanical Engineering; Electrical and Information Engineering; Economics and Law; Humanities and Philosophy; Humanities, Society and Healthcare. The university offers various bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs, many of which are taught entirely in English, and is very active in scientific research. It demonstrates its experience in European education and the research field, as well as its ability to manage a large number of incoming and outgoing students. UNICAS becomes a full member of the Alliance, meeting the integration criteria and sharing the goal of full unification. Geographical balance is a key factor, considering that EUt+ is somewhat less represented in the south and east in the context of the overall presence of European universities.
