The intensive joint work between Technical University of Sofia (TUS) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) continues thanks to the signed cooperation agreement between the two universities.
On 02.06.2015, a cooperation agreement was signed between Technical University of Sofia (TUS) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). This agreement regulates the joint activities of the two educational institutions within the framework of the Faculty of German Engineering Education and Industrial Management (FAGIOPM), supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
The Vice-Rector of TUS-Sofia, Prof. Dr. Valeri Mladenov, and the Dean of the Faculty of German Engineering Education and Industrial Management, Prof. Dr. Eng. Stefan Stefanov, signed the agreement on the Bulgarian side. On behalf of KIT, the agreement was signed by the President of the university, Prof. Dr. Eng. Holger Hanselka, and the Vice-President for Educational and Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Alexander Wanner. The KIT representatives emphasized that this cooperation is one of the most long-standing and intensive, and is of great benefit to both universities. TUS-Sofia and KIT can build upon the successful 25 years of cooperation.
Based on the signed agreement, advanced students will be trained jointly with KIT for the educational and qualification degrees of 'Bachelor' and 'Master' in the specialty 'General Mechanical Engineering' at TUS-Sofia, as well as in the future new specialty 'Mechatronics'. Students will receive a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which will be awarded after a transparent and fair selection process. Doctoral students in both specialties will have the advantage of being supported by scientific supervisors from both sides. An important part of the agreement is the development of scientific and research activities, as well as the expansion of cooperation with industry.
Behind the successful and intensive cooperation between the two universities stands the active work and commitment of Prof. Dr. Eng. Dr. Zhivka Ovcharova, Head of the Institute for Information Management in Engineering Specialties (IMI). Since 2005, Ms. Ovcharova has been the coordinator from the KIT side for the training in the specialty 'General Mechanical Engineering' at FAGIOPM, and since 2007, she has been a member of the Board of Trustees of TUS-Sofia.
