Doctoral Program Characteristics: Occupational Safety and Fire Protection EngineeringThe training at the Technical University - Sofia (TU-Sofia) in all doctoral programs, including the doctoral program "Safety Engineering and Fire Protection Equipment", is conducted in a strictly regulated manner in compliance with the requirements of the Higher Education Act, the Act on the Development of Academic Staff in the Republic of Bulgaria, the Regulation for the Application of the Act on the Development of Academic Staff in the Republic of Bulgaria, and the regulatory framework of TU-Sofia related to the training of doctoral students at TU-Sofia, systematized in Appendix_1 of this self-assessment report. The training in the doctoral program "Occupational Safety and Fire Safety Engineering" is determined by:● the need to reproduce the habilitated teaching staff for the doctoral program "Occupational Safety Engineering and Fire Protection Equipment" by enhancing the educational and scientific qualifications of young assistants and specialists from the country;● increasing interest from companies in the manufacturing sector in applied research related to the objects of the specialty.Celite which should be achieved during the training of doctoral students, are as follows:enhancing the qualifications of doctoral students;preparing them as highly qualified specialists for the industry;forming them as highly qualified teachers for universities;developing them as competent, knowledgeable, and capable scientists.Achieving these goals is possible through the successful resolution of the following tasks:compliance with legal requirements in the training;the training and counseling of doctoral students shall be carried out by highly qualified habilitated teachers;to continuously improve and modernize the material base in order to intensify the research process;the application of information technologies for searching, accumulating, and processing information and data;maintaining a strong connection, close interaction, and responding to the growing interest of companies in the manufacturing and service sectors in scientific and applied developments related to the objects of the specialty. The requirements for the preparation of specialists with an educational and scientific degree of "Doctor" in the doctoral program "Safety Engineering and Fire Protection Technology" are:● to have excellent training in the field of theoretical electrical engineering;● to possess specific knowledge in the field of Safety Engineering and Fire Protection Technology;● to have training in the field of engineering methods and means for ensuring occupational safety, approaches and methods for analyzing the state of safety in the development and operation of automation, control, measurement, and information systems;● in-depth and creative knowledge and use of literature in the specific field in which the dissertation topic is formulated;● demonstration of creative thinking;● acquisition of a high level of skills, knowledge, and qualifications for theoretical and/or experimental research work.
