Abstract of the doctoral program "Lighting Technology and Light Sources"
One of the leading educational and scientific directions of the Department of Electrical Supply, Electrical Equipment and Electric Transport (ESEET) at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering is the direction "Lighting Technology and Light Sources".
Training and scientific research in this field have long-standing traditions and great prospects. Success is manifested in the implementation and professional development, both in the country and abroad, of graduates from all three levels of higher education: BSc (Bachelor), MSc (Master), and PhD (Doctor). They become specialists sought after not only in higher education but also in private business and industry. The scientific developments and achievements of TU-Sofia alumni working on lighting technology problems are recognized and accepted by a large number of specialists in Bulgaria and other countries, and have been defended with prestigious scientific publications.
The round-the-clock need for light and the penetration of solid-state light sources (LEDs and OLEDs) necessitate the creation, study, and application of new technologies and methods for the production, photometry, and use of these light sources and products, providing an up-to-date topic for the training of doctoral students in this field. The management of artificial lighting, taking into account the availability of natural light, human presence, and the operating hours of buildings and premises, leads to increased energy efficiency and, in this sense, provides opportunities for scientific research and practical implementation.
